Before you buy an iPhone second hand it’s a good idea to check if it’s been stolen. This can be done online for most iPhones however you may need to make a phonecall.

Choose the guide below for whichever carrier you think the iPhone is locked to:

Check iPhone Stolen Telstra, Optus, Vodafone

Step 1 – Find Your IMEI

IMEI’s are equivalent to car registration numbers for your iPhone. To get it just go to your phone keypad and enter *#06# or see our quick Check iPhone IMEI guide.

Step 2 – Lookup Australian IMEI Number Online

Thankfully in Australia there’s a national online database where you can search for stolen iPhones. To check yours simply enter the IMEI into the box below and tap the ‘Query’ button.

Alternatively you can do this through the ATMA website hereThis should work for Telstra, Optus and Vodafone iPhones as well as some of the smaller carriers.

Check IPhone Stolen Verizon

Step 1 – Get IMEI Number

The IMEI number is like the car registration number of your iPhone. To get it just go to your phone keypad and type in *#06# or see our awesome Check iPhone IMEI guide.

Lookup IPhone IMEI Online

Go to the Verizon Website where you can enter in your iPhone IMEI to check if it’s Blocked (stolen).

If so then it’s probable that it’s a stolen iPhone. Needless to say… you probably don’t want to buy it…

Device ID Error

If you get the error “The Device ID you entered is not valid. Please try again or contact Customer Service at 800-922-0204 for assistance” then the iPhone IMEI isn’t assigned to a Verizon account. In case just try one of the other providers.

Check iPhone Stolen T-Mobile

Step 1 – Get IPhone IMEI Number

IMEI’s are equivalent to car registration numbers for your iPhone. To get it just go to your phone keypad and enter *#06# or see our quick Check iPhone IMEI guide.

Step 2 – Lookup IMEI Number Online

Go to the T-Mobile Website and enter in the IMEI number in the box (see below). This will show you whether or the iPhone has been stolen.

Check IPhone Stolen Sprint

Step 1 – Get The IMEI Number

This is like the car rego number for your iPhone. Simply go to your iPhone keypad and type in *#06# or see our legendary What is my iPhone IMEI guide.

Step 2 – Chat With A Sprint Rep Online

It would be great if they had an automatic system for this however as of 11 May 2013 a Sprint rep posted in a forum that you have to use their Online chat program to ask. It can be found here.

Check iPhone Stolen AT&T

Step 1 – Locate Your IPhone IMEI

This is like the car registration plate for your iPhone. It’s easy to find – just go to your iPhone keypad and type in *#06# or see our quick find iPhone IMEI guide.

Step 2 – Ring AT&T Customer Service

Unfortunately there’s no online service for AT&T mobiles however the customer service number to ring is 1-800-331-0500 or just dial 611 from your AT&T iPhone.
